Boulder Colorado is an amazing place to visit. For a relatively small town it has a lot to offer.
This is my (evolving) list of the best things to do and check out in Boulder.
Best Coffee Shop
The best place to get an espresso in Boulder is Boxcar Coffee Roasters on East Pearl street. Very consistently good and rich in flavour. The shop is always busy and is a great atmosphere to hang out. They also sell some fantastic baguettes.
Runner-up for a tasty espresso is the Unseen Bean. It is a tiny shop and better for a grab and go.
Best Authentic Mexican Food
This is going down as a tie. If you want some affordable tasty Mexican food in Boulder try out both Sancho’s in the Diagonal Plaza and La Choza in North Boulder on Broadway.
Best Hike in Boulder
This is a tough one to really nail down because there are so many amazing hikes to do in Boulder.
The obvious choice and most accessible starting point for hikes is at Chautauqua Park. I rate Chautauqua hikes as the runner-up.
The best and most exhilarating hike in Boulder is Bear Peak. There is something very satisfying about standing on top of the highest peak in the area. You can start at Chautauqua for a longer route or park and go from NCAR in South Boulder.
Best Outdoor Swimming Pool in Boulder
There are several outdoor pools in Boulder proper, but I recommend the Eldorado Springs pool that is a quick 10 minute drive South of Boulder. Opened in 1905, the pool is fed directly by a constant flow from the artesian spring. The pool is a great place to hang out, catch some rays, and cool off when you get too hot. You can start your visit off with a hike up the road at Eldorado Canyon State Park then head back down for a dip.
Valmont Bike Park
If you are looking for a fun activity check out the Valmont Bike Park. The bike park is a 42-acre, natural surface terrain park that offers trails and facilities for all riding styles and abilities. The park is free and open daily from dawn to dusk.
Pearl Street Mall
Head down to the Pearl Street Mall to do a number of fun-filled activities. Great for a stroll on the pedestrian walk, a bite to eat at one of the many great restaurants, a drink on a patio, a coffee at one of the many coffee shops, shopping, or people watching.
Head over to Chautauqua Park at Baseline and 9th and take in the view of the Flatirons up close.
Best Park in Boulder
I rate North Boulder Park as the best park in Boulder. It offers great views of Mount Sanitas, Bear Peak, and has a huge field to hang out on. The park also has a playground, baseball diamonds, a basketball court, and picnic and grilling areas.

Best Walk in Boulder
Want an easy hike or walk right in the city? If you have a car, park around 9th and Mapleton. Walk West on Mapleton, past Green Rock Drive on the left and look for the Red Rocks trail. You can walk around this area called Settler’s Park. Make your way South and down to Pearl Street and head East back in to town.
